Disha is a non-governmental organization which provides assistance to marginalized children, youth and women from the Manoharpukur slum area in Kolkata, in spheres of education, health and empowerment.
Disha began in a small way in June 1992 in the Manoharpukur basti, Ward 84 with 6 school going children and a group of dedicated teachers, with the main aim of preventing drop outs.Read more
Rural Health Care Foundation (RHCF), an NGO, was started in 2009 to counter the critical inadequacy of healthcare for the underprivileged communities in West Bengal. Their rural centres have been opened in areas deprived of proper healthcare facilities in a 50 km radius. Each of the rural centres serve over 40 villages.
Their healthcare centres have General Medicine, Optometry, Dentistry and Homeopathy departments, and pharmacy with about 200 kinds of generic medicines. At each centre, along with medical consultation for Rs. 80 and free 1-week supply of medication, spectacles are provided at subsidised cost.Read more
